Joint NGO policy proposals for a sustainable future aviation strategy

Environmental organisations have major concerns that airport expansion in the South East could lead to serious negative environmental impacts including increased levels of aircraft noise, loss of ancient and valuable habitats and risk to national climate targets.
Therefore, the Aviation Environment Federation has led a group of six environmental NGOs including, RSPB, WWF, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, and the Campaign for Better Transport, in developing a series of tests that must be passed in order for airport expansion to take place. We would otherwise oppose expansion at Gatwick or Heathrow.
The tests deal with concerns about climate change, aircraft noise, air quality, biodiversity, and democratic involvement.
We are calling on all political parties to include the tests in their party manifestos to indicate how they will consider the findings of the Airports Commission in 2015.
