Benefits of membership
As a member you help to support our activities, while ensuring that your views are communicated directly to aviation’s policy-makers. The AEF is actively represented on government and European Commission working groups addressing future aviation and environmental policy, and, as part of an international coalition, at meetings of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s environmental committee.
Membership also entitles you to our information and advice service:
- Access to AEF’s specialist knowledge on a wide range of topics (see below); casework officers specialising in planning, general aviation and commercial aviation are available to answer members’ written and telephone enquiries
- AEF’s quarterly newsletter Flying Green
- Briefing notes and information sheets on topics of interest (including policy consultations)
- Attendance at the Annual General Meeting (usually featuring a guest presentation)
- Publications and seminar/conference attendance at reduced rates
- Invitations to ‘members only’ seminars and meetings
- Use of the AEF office library (by prior arrangement)
AEF is able to provide a comprehensive advice and information service on many subjects including
- Technical data on noise, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and the operation of aircraft and airports (internationally and in the UK)
- The regulatory framework for aviation: air, environmental, and planning law (including how the planning system works, the opportunities to comment, and the Public Inquiry process)
- Development/planning issues – planning conditions, legal agreements, and case precedents
- Who’s who in aviation, Government, the European Parliament, and intermational bodies, as well as in the legal, acoustic and environmental consultancy fields
- Guidance in relation to aerodrome consultative committees
How to join
To become an AEF member you will need to pay an annual subscription fee. We offer different membership rates for the following categories:

Personal Membership currently costs £20 per year.

AEF Association Membership
Association membership is aimed at residents’ groups and environmental organisations that are concerned with the adverse impacts of airport/airfield operations, whether relating to small-scale General Aviation or larger-scale commercial air transport operations. AEF is able to offer advice to groups on a wide range of issues such as airfield/airport planning applications.
Membership rates are currently £30 per annum for associations with under 5000 members, or £36 per annum for associations with over 5000 members.
