M25 in Heathrow third runway’s ‘crash zone’

14th April, 2008

An article in the Sunday Times on 13/4/08 highlighted the fact there was no assessment of safety in the consultation on Heathrow expansion. (Also Word document.)

Specfically, that there was no estimate of the ‘Public Safety Zone’ for the airport for a third runway.

The government’s limp excuse from the DfT was: “the issue of the number of people affected by any new public safety zone would need to be looked at as part of any future planning application”. This is no answer at all because, by the same token, issues such as noise and air pollution could have been omitted from the consultation and just covered at the planning inquiry!

The Consultation response of Friends of the earth is linked to this article because it deals with the general issue of third party safety (danger).
