AEF in Action – a summary of AEF’s work over November 2013: the AGM, ICAO environmental committee and media coverage debating expansion

11th December, 2013

In mid-November, AEF held its Annual General Meeting at our office in central London. The AGM also marked the launch of our 2013 Annual Report which is available online here. Following the business of the meeting, AEF Director Tim Johnson, gave a presentation about the Airports Commission and then members, the executive council and AEF staff discussed how the organisation should approach its work with the Airports Commission over the coming year.

The Airports Commission already makes up a large part of our work programme and during November AEF Case Worker, Nic Ferriday, appeared on the BBC’s Daily Politics programme and also on Radio 5 Live in debates with proponents of airport expansion.

In terms of our broader national work, AEF attended a Defra noise stakeholder meeting which proved useful for building our network with other organisations working on aircraft noise. Members of AEF also attended the DfT External Advisory Group to learn and feedback on the latest work by DfT.  Tim Johnson continued to inform the industry group, Sustainable Aviation, as chair of the group’s advisory panel.

As part of our work on international aviation policy, Tim attended the steering group meeting of ICAO’s environmental committee which was held in Dubai. The focus of the steering group meeting was to maintain progress across the working groups including the work streams on the development of an aircraft CO2 standard and possible future work on market-based measures to address emissions.
