Austria to introduce aviation tax

24th November, 2010

Austria is to become the latest country to introduce an air ticket tax.

The air ticket fee will be similar to the one Germany has introduced; it will be €8 for short-haul flights, and up to €35 for long-haul ones. The measure was announced in the country’s budget for 2011-14.

The British air ticket tax, Air Passenger Duty, went up at the start of November. It breaks the world down into four zones, with the most expensive (long-haul) tickets now attracting tax of £85 in economy class (up from £55) and £170 in any other class (up from £110).
