With the announcement this week that the Advocate General at the European Court of Justice believes that the inclusion of aviation in the EU ETS is legal, Tim Johnson gave press comment that appeared in a range of publications, including the Independent in the UK, and CBS news in the USA. AEF, as part of a coalition of environmental organisations, has formally intervened in the legal proceedings in support of the EU Emissions Trading System in a case brought by a group of airlines opposed to the extension of the scheme to air travel into and out of Europe from 2012.
Tim has also, during the past fortnight, provided an environmental perspective at an internal event at Gatwick for senior staff, and, as part of a panel of stakeholders, commented on Cathay Pacific’s recent Corporate Sustainability Report.
Cait attended an aviation industry breakfast event on proposals for a new airport in the Thames Estuary, and Nic met with the New Economics Foundation to discuss issues related to the economic impacts of aviation. Commentary on economics will form part of our response to the current consultation on the Government’s scoping document, which will lay the foundation for a new aviation policy.
