The ICAO Assembly concluded at the beginning of October. Following this, the AEF’s Director, Tim Johnson’s international policy work turned to preparation for the CAEP (Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection) steering group meeting at the start of November in Dubai.

The airport expansion date began to flare up over the course of the month with Sir Howard Davies’ speech and new research into the health impacts of aircraft noise. On noise, Tim presented the AEF’s perspective on aircraft noise to the Greener by Design conference held at the Royal Aeronautical Society.

He also spoke about the environmental implications of airport expansion at an event organised by the Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign for local authorities and amenity groups. James meanwhile wrote a blog in response to Sir Howard Davies’ speech and co-ordinated a joint NGO letter on climate change.

James has continued his work on Airport Consultative Committees and over the course of the month he attended the Gatwick, Luton and Stansted committees and managed to get to know a few of our members. Tim also chaired a meeting of the Henstridge Airfield consultative committee.

Nic has been continuing his work on state aid to aviation and has compiled a report on the percentage of passengers on business related trips. His report should be available shortly.
