Heathrow expansion lobby group launched

24th May, 2005

A group campaigning for the continued expansion of London’s Heathrow airport, including a third runway, has been launched. There was a demonstration outside Future Heathrow’s launch at the CBI headquarters in London.

‘Future Heathrow’, which counts airlines and unions among its members, says it is aiming to highlight the importance of the airport to the economy.

Its leader is the Labour peer Lord Soley. Until the last election he was MP for Ealing, Acton and Shepherds Bush in West London.

But Friends of the Earth and the Heathrow anti-noise group Hacan Clearskies says expansion would have huge environmental impacts and would not have a significant positive economic impact.
