The AEF has responded to a CAA consultation on defining the scope of the environmental assessments for the airspace change masterplan.
According to the CAA, “the airspace change masterplan is being developed by the Airspace Change Organising Group (ACOG) to coordinate airspace changes that will upgrade and modernise UK airspace at a system level.”
The CAA must ensure that the masterplan undergoes both a strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and a Habitats Regulations assessment (HRA) as a legal requirement.
This consultation sought views on what each of these assessments should cover, including the assessment methodology.
AEF laid out its concerns around the proposed methodology for identifying significant impacts for air pollution, and what we identified as inadequate Zones of Influence for noise impacts as well as for biodiversity.
